Question
Big ideas are born at the intersection of necessity and insanity.
With big data, pervasive connectivity, and social responsibility headed on a collision course, we asked ourselves how we can harness that energy for the benefit of society.
Can we impact humanity’s carbon footprint through voluntary behavior modification?
Hypothesis
We propose that we can prevent the emission of 1,000,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from being emitted via simple behavior modifications.
Some of you may know that the average American emits approximately 17 tons of carbon dioxide per year. The much more frightening stat is that the earth can naturally reabsorb only 1.7 tons per person per year. We’ve maxed out our carbon "credit card" 10x over.
We founded Asimov Labs because government regulations, electric cars, nor solar panels will ever be able to solve this problem - only our collective will can.
Experiment
Our first test is to see whether we can impact society’s carbon emissions by inducing small and voluntary changes in people’s behavior.
However seemingly small these changes are, we are aware of the immense challenge that behavior modification presents.
In that spirit, we’re developing our first product, karbonkarma, as a platform that monitors a user’s carbon footprint, coaches the user on how to easily reduce it, and rewards him or her for improvements.
